We're moving next weekend. (AIEEEEE! etc. etc.)
I know this is the best thing for the baby and for us, but it sucks. I hate packing under normal circumstances, and doing it while pregnant makes it 100X worse. I'm totally stressed. Every minute of free time is spent cleaning things to pack, sorting things to get rid of, actually packing, or freaking out about all of the above. This is the only pregnancy I'll have where I can truly revel in it and pamper myself. The next time? I'll be chasing after The Boy. Plus, these are the last four months when it's just me. I don't want this time to pass me by in a flurry of anxiety, so I can't tell you just how much I am eagerly awaiting Sunday the 16th. I'll actually be able to cozy up on the couch with a pregnancy book and read. Without. Guilt.
So, to calm myself and to get excited about our migration to another apartment, I have compiled a list of all the wonderful and fabulous things that await us. Have a look-see:
1). No. More. Jackhammers. The few times I had to stay home because I wasn't feeling well since the construction started (April) were Hell on Earth because of all the noise. Soon we won't have to deal with that and I can play hooky in silence.
2). Jackhammers = Concrete Dust. No more nasty dirt and ich in our apartment! Our vacuum, air purifier, and Pledge bottle will be so happy!
3). We will be able to USE OUR BALCONY and OPEN OUR WINDOWS! That's right. We've been locked in from the outside since April (don't even get me started). Now I'll be able to plant flowers, sit outside in nice weather, and BBQ whenever the mood strikes.
4). We won't be living on the 10th floor anymore which means if I need to, I can hoof it up the stairs to our apartment carrying the baby without difficulty. When Chicago had that crazy storm the end of August the elevators didn't work for two days. Newly pregnant and exhausted, I couldn't make it up there and had to stay with friends. Now I won't be worried if there's an emergency--I can just grab the boy and go.
5). Our new place is freshly upgraded, which means a new kitchen, new bathrooms, and partial hardwoods. This isn't why we moved, but hey, if I'm making a list then it's a nice perk to have. (I'll post pics of the new place and all it's wonders once we're settled).
6). It's larger by a whole 11 square feet. And that's big enough for a baby, right?
7). We have a big beautiful tree outside our window. Living so high up for the past 5 1/2 years, we haven't seen many birds and only the tops of trees as we looked off our balcony. Now we'll have one a mere five feet away! Cleo is going to LOVE chattering at the birds and squirrels, and I'll enjoy a little native fauna.
8). We're actually SAVING money by moving. While it's a little more per month than what we're paying now, as a move-in incentive, we get a month's rent free. Pro-rating that out means we're saving around $70 a month. And since we don't anticipate any added financial pressures in the next year, we'll be able to. . .oh wait. Never mind.
9). The new apartment isn't prone to flooding!
10). The new building doesn't have a major ant infestation, so I won't have to have an exterminator out every week. I won't see ants on our computer! Or in our kitchen! Or hovering around Cleo's food dish!
There. Now I really do feel a bit better. There are a ton of things I'll miss about our current place, but the new move isn't forever. It's where we'll bring our baby home for the first time and now that I think about it, THAT is the most exciting thing ever.
