I've always been passionate about recycling, reducing waste, and reusing whatever possible. We drive the most fuel-efficient car we could afford, and I'm a nut about turning lights off. I voted for Gore. We donate to enviornmental charities. We intend to use cloth diapers when we have kids. We bring cloth bags grocery shopping whenever we can. Still, I'm always on a quest to do more, because the world needs all the help we can give it. I'm going to start making my own cleaning products, and I'd really like to phase out a lot of plastic that we use (garbage bags, water bottles, sandwich bags, etc.). Since today is Earth Day, I thought I'd share some enviornmentally friendly links I have been diggin' lately, in hopes to spark some more awareness throughout the blogosphere. Also, if YOU have any other ideas or links, please share. I'm always on the hunt for more!
-- Reusable Bags : Oh. My. Goodness. I'm TOTALLY going to buy the Wrap-n-mat set of three pronto! And a SIGG bottle. And maybe some Chicobags. . . .sigh.
-- No Impact Man : His blog is amazing. Such an inspiration. *swoon*
-- Composting for apartments : My friend did this when she lived in an apartment and you couldn't smell anything nasty. It rocked. Now I just have to get motivated to do it!
-- Green Dimes : Get rid of junk mail, thus saving more trees from being chopped down. They also plant one tree for you once a month. All for a dime a day. Amazing!!
-- Cloth diapers : And cloth wipes. Don't forget those too! For those of you who have heard that it takes more water to wash them than to make disposables, so therefor it's just as bad to use them, I send you here . They break down the math. Also? These diapers will last for more than one kid. Saving tons of money AND the Earth--double bonus.
--Freecycle! : I love this site. It helps the community, saves people money, reduces waste in landfills, reduces further manufacturing of products, and helps you clean out your closets! I've given so much away I've lost count, and I've also received some great things too. I can't say enough about this. Look for one in your area and sign up. You won't be disappointed!
--Sara's blog : I don't know her at all, but can I just say reading what she has to say is so inspiring? Wow. And if you keep scrolling down you can see what an amazing job she did decorating her 382 square foot apartment! Now THAT'S dedication.
I'm on a more mindful quest to be a better giver and not such a taker when it comes to living. I'd love to hear anything you all are doing to help the enviorment as well--gimmie what ya got! Links, books, magazines, tips, the whole shebang.
Let's make a positive change this Earth Day! Wahoo!
